I'd like to follow up on last week's blog on What is one of Microsoft's biggest challenge going foward with WP7? a friend (thanks SG) sent me an article from CNN Money.com, Fortune Brainstorm Tech section called Day 1 estimate: 120,000 iPads sold.

In my original article, I talked about how Microsoft HAS to create an emotional energy about their phones/devices much like what Apple's done with their iPhone/Touch devices. Why? CNN Money estimates on the FIRST DAY, 120,000 units sold. Ok, ok, yes, I'm a Microsoft supporter, and I would like to key in on the "ESTIMATE" part....but the thing with "estimates" is, well.....they can just as easily be UNDER as the can be OVER! There could easily be over a quarter of a million sold on the first day as easily as 25,000. But you know what, doesn't matter! When you get CNN talking about hundreds of thousands of orders ON THE FIRST DAY!!!!!!! That's incredible! As someone hanging on EVERY GOOGLE AND BING LINK ABOUT WP7 I CAN READ!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm HOPING Microsoft can generate this kind of buzz in the fall/winter about WP7. Yes, it's working on me today, but will it work on YOU tomorrow?
Microsoft HAS to come out with something that competes! Oh, and the Tablet with Windows XP/Vista or Windows 7? Sorry, that won't cut it! "Instant On" is the key feature here boys! Browsing and checking email withing two seconds (no, I'm not exaggerating!) is key here. Everything else is secondary! Netbooks/Tablets running a comlete OS like Windows 7 just can't compete there!
If you're like me and wating (not so) anxiously about everything Microsoft talks about tomorrow when they FINALLY release details about WP7 development, we're both chomping at the bit to get started! :> So let's go grab a coffee and get coding!
