Remember that pilot who landed the Airbus in the Hudson River almost two weeks ago? Do you know what he did for fun? Read the article The Interview Question You Should Always Ask and I think you may NOT be surprised he actually did that without injury. Yes, there was aircraft damage, but what can you expect from landing a plane in a river? The fact that nobody was killed is amazing! The other fact he does that kind of thing in the spare time, makes it wonderful he was at the helm when it happened. Would you want anyone else flying the plane?
So, what's the moral of the story? What do you do in YOUR spare time? If you're a coder, do you have your own website? Do you make your own utility programs? Do you help your friend's with their computer? Do you try to get certifications? Do you read books? What about blogs? Do you know what RSS is? Or are you just a "9-5er?"
Ok, flip it around, if you were a hiring manager, would you hire a person sitting across the table from you if they were just like you? Would you trust them with a one hundred thousand dollar contract on the line and a deadline in three months?
Just a little something to make you go hhhhmmmmmm.............. :>
