Tethering with WP7? I thought you couldn't do that? Maybe you can?!

Tethering with Samsung FocusYou tThought the WP7 didn't have tethering?  Mee too, but, maybe it does?  Check this out to see if you can tether with your WP7 phone!

Tethering with Samsung FocusOfficially, the WP7 DOES NOT tether.  Don't know what tethering is?  Hey, neither did I until the iPhone came out!  DOH!  It's a thousand dollar term for using your phone to connect to the internet from your laptop/netbook/wifi device.

Paul Thurrott found this article on PCWorld.  The deal here is, it's a hack, and I (and I assume Paul Thurrott as well) provide NO warrantee or claims this will work or not break/brick your device.  In other words, if you DO decide to proceed with this hack, hey, you're on your own and I'm not buying you a replacement.  Hey, I can't even get one FOR ME!!!!!!  I'm not buying anyone else.  I'm just passing this onto you (and keeping a reminder for me to try it out when I DO get mine! LOL).

Now that we know how to connect our laptops/netbooks to the "interweb," it's time to grab a coffee and get coding!

Laurent Duveau just commented with longer and more explicit steps on Rogers on how to do this.

Wow. That's an awesome news. Actually I did this a few times but the battery of the phone easily get drained. Also you can try it in reverse. Your computer will offer the connection to your phone. Isn't that nice?

Re: Tethering with WP7? I thought you couldn't do that? Maybe you can?!

I was at a local conference this past weekend and two people ironically asked me if I had done this. I haven't done it yet. The number of manual steps and the times I need to do this just didn't make it worthwhile (when I already have too many other things to go). BUT nobody has said anything about the battery drain. So thank you for that huge tid bit of great info!!!! When I try it in the future, I'll have to monitor the battery carefully! It only makes sense the battery drains faster, unless of course you keep it plugged into the USB, which means NOT forgetting the cord! haha But you said you can get it working the other way around? Ok THAT is also interesting, you have a link on how to set that up? I'm going to google that now! Thanks for the heads up Broadband! Have a good week.
