Updating WP7 apps gone awry!

Marketplace Tile indicating updates availableI have three WP7 applications that just won't get updated?  HOW are they supposed to be updated?

Marketplace Tile indicating updates availableWhat's the definition of insanity?  Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results right?

Last week, I saw the Maretplace tile indeed is live!  It will change to indicate you have apps with updates available.  COOL!  For the most part it works like a charm.  You go into the Marketplace, hit the update on the first screen, then "update all" link, and you're good!

But this week, I started to have problems updating three applications which just wouldn't update.  I figured someone wouldn't believe me, so here is the photographic proof I'm not caffeinated deprived!

The picture on the right is what I see on the tiles.  Cool!  (aaaahhh notice miFlashlight? LOL).

Next, I go into the Marketplace.

Clicking on the "3 updates" I see the "offending apps which refuse to update.

Update all in Marketplace

Ok, next all is progressing as expected, WP7 will queue up the updates.

And things are progressing, as they download, they drop off the list.

AAAAAHHHHH There we go, aaaaaallllll done, right?!

Once you hit the back button now, you're back to the "app updates" screen.......HUH?!  This isn't what I'm expecting!

All over again? HUH?

Tonight, I figured maybe the updates were just too big to do "over the air" and that I would be required to connect to Zune to update.  No dice, nothing happened when I connected Zune.  Well, nothing out of the ordinary I should say, Zune just said it synced and all was ok.

Ok, so there you have it, these updates just refused to "update."  My last resort solution was/is to remove them entirely, then reinstall [if desired].  In my case, I was trying to use the trials, so I just uninstalled them.  I might give them a try sometime later, but for now, there are some other cool things I want to try to out.  Now it's time to grab a coffee and get coding!

Re: Updating WP7 apps gone awry!

I've had this happen quite frequently - the common factor, though, seems to be the fact that the misbehaving updates are for trials.

I think I have had them eventually sort themselves out, but often I've just done as you suggest - uninstall and reinstall (or, just uninstall for good).

Re: Updating WP7 apps gone awry!

Hi Ed, thank you for letting me know I'm not alone. I suspected it was something with the trial version, thanks for adding a bit of muscle to that hypothesis. (Don't get noth'n for free anymore eh? HAHA)

re eventually they sort themselves out
I figured the would, but like you, I figured I'd uninstall and revisit later on, most likely after the next update. And like you probably figured, like other will, you just forget to go back (not good for the original app though, DOH!). Part of being early to the platform. I'm sure MS will fix it soon.

Thank you for commenting! I really do appreciate it! Have a good week Ed!

Re: Updating WP7 apps gone awry!

Hi Colin. Ya, I'm getting it repeatedly since this first hiccup. I believe Ed is indeed correct, it's only happening with some trials I have. To fix it? Either uninstall completely, or uninstall and reinstall. Can you tell I'm impatient enough to not consider waiting for the next update for the solution?! hahaha

Thank you for commenting, happy holidays and have a great week!

Re: Updating WP7 apps gone awry!

Hi B, yes, I've had this several times since first posting this, as well as many other's have too. FORTUNATELY there's a new update from MS today/tonight! So I'm looking forward to this being fixed......???? Not sure, but we can still hope right? haha But Microsoft DOES know about this and from what I can gather (on the forums) they are working hard on it. So IF it's not in this update, I DO expect it in the next one.

Thank you for stopping by and commenting!
