Did Microsoft re-release the latest WP7 update? Uh, news alert, it's still .....uh...hhhmmm.......

WP7 update availableTonight I was wondering (and tweeted) about when is Microsoft/Samsung/Rogers going to re-release the latest WP7 update?  A few hours later I got my answer, TONIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Spoiler alert, first it failed, then I got a successful update, read for more details.

hhhhhmmmmmm if you're like me and own a Samsung Focus WP7 smartphone, you're probably watching with great anticipation, Microsoft's recent update, then pulling of the update, and waiting now for the re-release!  Well, tonight I tweeted about it, and a few hours later, Zune told me there was an update available and that I should update.  COOL!!!!  Well, hold on a second thar cowboy!  Not so fast!

First I got the message on my phone an update is available and that I should update.  Cool!!!!!!!!

WP7 update available

Cool!  Microsoft pulled the update last week after many Focus users were experiencing problems.  SO!  Now that I'm seeing this, I can ONLY assume, Microsoft/Samsung/Rogers got all the kinks/bugs worked out? Right?  RIGHT?

Stays here for a while

Ok, after a bit of time, I get another screen saying it's at step 1 of 2 and rebooting again.

Rebooting phone (again)

Ok, looks VERY cool so far....I'm looking forward to the speed improvements promised in this updat........OH SNAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  gggrrrrrr

Still errors exist

Lots of HD spaceOk, BEFORE someone from Microsoft says I have a "problem with my internet connection" or I "don't have enough hard drive disk space", let me ASSURE YOU, THAT'S JUST NOT THE CASE!  I have a Rogers hispeed network connection, it's been on for the last ten years (off and on only a few times) and I have a HUGE hard drive with LOOOOOOOTS of free space.  So I have to say, this isn't MY problem IMHO!

Thankfully (it appears) my phone's not bricked!  PHEW!  Ok, CLEARLY one of two things is happening.  Either one, Rogers isn't listening to Microsoft when they pulled the update!  Or two, Microsft re-released the update, but....uuuuhhhh.......hhhhmmmm it's still not working........  Man, I kind of hope it's NOT the latter and that Rogers is to blame on this one.  What are they chances?

Now that's out there for Microsoft to learn from, it's time to grab a coffee and get coding!

LATE NIGHT EDIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, after reading James and Cindy's comments, I decided to try this again (and again and again as it turns out) and eventually I got SUCCESS!

SUCCESS!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, so what changed?  I tried another two times, reconnecting the USB cable (thinking this time it would push through further....), then after that, restarting Zune, but still errored out.  Ok, so then I thought maybe it was lack of free space on the phone.  I started uninstalling apps I've tried/had passing enjoyment, didn't care for, etc.  Anyways, I got the free space above 4GB, and tried it again, and WOW!!!!!!!!!!  SUCCESS!  (I know, I know lots of !!!! and caps LOL but I AM happy this worked!)

Free space on phone

Apparently, app loading times have improved, so that is one thing I'm looking forward to seeing.

I also got the update (on Rogers)... the update worked me fine and smoothly! If you look at the Twittersphere, others have had success too. You should tweet @winphonesupport.

Also, when you post things, can you not sound like a prick? All the exclamation marks and douchey tone of the words.. just keep your cool man. Thanks. :)

Was your battery fully charged? You must have a 100% battery charge.

Re: Did Microsoft re-release the latest WP7 update? Uh, news alert, it's still broken

Hi James, I guess I'm just part of the 10% that's having problems? I'm just wondering who's got the issue here, Rogers releasing the udpate when they shouldn't, or this IS the re-release and it's still buggy? Either way, an issue still exists...cause a picture's worth a thousand words.

re being a prick
......hhhhmmmmmm.....Sometimes I do mean to do that (read some of my blogs from Nov/Dec about Rogers) but usually it's my attempt to express passion/energy/enthusiasm. Yes, I do talk with my hands waving/flapping quite a bit too! LOL Also, it does have a bit of tones of "I've done my homework, so please don't give me the standard tech support schpeel about checking the power cord...is it plugged in..." I've done what was expected and I've gotten this error. A bit "quite frankly, this is the issue" kind of tone. Ok, maybe that needs a bit of work, I can accept that. Thanks for the heads up.

re battery charge level
Yup, 100%, it's been plugged in all day at work, and at home, right beside me while doing some dev and testing apps (oh ya, and when I unplug the phone, the battery picture is 100%).

Thank you James and Cindy for your comments! I think you set the record for the fastest comments after I posted, EVER! HAHA I appreciate you leaving your thoughts (yes, even the prickly ones LOL).

Re: Did Microsoft re-release the latest WP7 update? Uh, news alert, it's still broken

No problem... and I don't think it's just Rogers pushing it out, it's the actual re-release because if you look at your first screenshot it clearly states "Samsung Update for Windows Phone". And it seems that other carriers are pushing it too.
Hope your next try goes smoothly! :)

Re: Did Microsoft re-release the latest WP7 update? Uh, news alert, it's still .....uh...hhhmmm.......

Hi Cindy! Yes, it did in fact! This time around, I decided to try freeing space on the Focus. And that worked! Maybe MS should be checking for free space before running the update? (if they do, hhmmm that code needs a bit more unit testing IMHO hahaha LOL).

re first screenshot
I saw that first screen too, and I does indeed say "February 2011" which kind of confused me, cause I thought they (Microsoft/Samsung/Rogers?) might have wanted to make it a "March 2011" release? The "February" is a bit ambiguous for me. Maybe that's just me though, it is late, and my last coffee was around 4:00pm! LOL

Thank you for coming back and commenting! I have indeed heard about the battery level != 100% problem as well, so I made sure of that before doing the update (hence my reply about being plugged in all day and all night, I was reassuring myself at the same time LOL).

PS I use the "LOL" and "HAHAHAHA" a lot cause I can't really use my standard "emoticons" (the : with the less than sign) cause DNN/my blogging engine thinks that's part of the html entry and screws up my comments. So I end up littering my entries with LOL and hahah to show some emotion.

LOL yay! :) I find it funny that the thing that solved your problem was exactly what support kept saying (make sure to have enough free space on both the pc and the phone)... glad it worked! Lets hope the "NoDo" update works with no problems at all!

Re: Did Microsoft re-release the latest WP7 update? Uh, news alert, it's still .....uh...hhhmmm.......

Hi Cindy! I had read on other sites to make sure you have enough HD on the PC, contrary to what I first thought about lack of space on the phone. From the MS link above, it did talk about the HD. "a bad Internet connection or insufficient computer storage space." It's weird how even that one didn't talk about the space on the phone, but hey, like you said...."LOL yay! :)" it's working now, and with that little tidbit of help, maybe it'll help someone else out.

Thanks for commenting (again HAHA). It's getting late, and time for bed on this end of the NIC cable. Have a good one. Time for beddy bye and then lots of coffee tomorrow. haha

"Apparently, app loading times have improved, so that is one thing I'm looking forward to seeing."

Unfortunately, this is not that update. App load time improvements will come with the NoDo update, this is the pre-NoDo update that prepares the device for the NoDo update. And btw, I kinda like all the exclamations and "hhhmmmms" ;) I don't know maybe it instills some sort of dark energy into me.. lol

Re: Did Microsoft re-release the latest WP7 update? Uh, news alert, it's still .....uh...hhhmmm.......

Hey Wes, since you updated your Focus without issue, I figured I would try it last night. Another friend with a Focus tried on the first update and it didn't work, so I was 50-50 for friends with success. haah

Hey Prabhu, I was wondering last night if it was just me being tired or if I just wasn't seeing any loading improvements. haha I just figured it was me (and lack of coffee, and being VERY late haha). So thank you very much for confirming "this ain't THAT update!" DOH! More to look forward to then!

re exclamations, hhhmmmms and a bit of dark energy
haha Thank you for posting that! I'm trying to balance a few things when I write my blogs. Technical content of course, usefulness for me and others, humour/entertainment, a bit of sales/marketing to try to draw more people and keep the ones currently reading to come back...and a bit of venting mechanism for me (haha that's where the "dark energy" comes out a bit LOL), and lastly, I talk a lot and I LOVE to talk tech! So I flail my hands and am emotional when I speak/present (or I try to be at least). And on DNN blogs, when I use my usual smileys : with a less than, it would/does completely screws up text, ESPECIALLY upon editing/reediting of blogs. Nasty, I forget how many times I've lost content! ggrrr All those things together kind of force me to display my passion/energy in other ways (CAPS, !!!!!!! and LOLs and HAHAs).

re prickly comments
Ya, I can see that. I've reread some of my blogs a few weeks afterwards, and ya, sometimes there's a "man, was I ever negative in that blog" feeling, but at that point in time, THAT's what I was feeling, as honest and truthful as it was. Man, if you think THAT is bad, you should have seen me when I was going J2EE/JSPs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHOA!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was bitter then ((!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)^3)

Thank you Wes and Prabhu for commenting! I really do appreciate reading other people's idea's and it even helped out IMMENSLY last night! I already follow your blog Wes, and I just started following your's now Prabhu! Very cool! Have a good one!

Re: Did Microsoft re-release the latest WP7 update? Uh, news alert, it's still .....uh...hhhmmm.......

I just read from @wpwonders on Twitter about another thread with a bunch of people having this problem (still).
answers.microsoft.com/en-us/winphone/forum/wp7-sync/new-update-for-samsung-wp7-gets-error-800705b4/2ae42929-2645-e011-90b6-1cc1de79d2e2?page=1&tm=1299177807363

I
guess I wasn't the only one last night. The good thing about this is people ARE excited about the update and are chomping at the bit to try it out/to get it!

went through all sugestions multiple times with no success, and with no MS info, very frustrated right now. Is it Samsung or MS? Do I take my phone back to Rogers and demand from them that I get a new one... OMG, I can just see that fight happening

Re: Did Microsoft re-release the latest WP7 update? Uh, news alert, it's still .....uh...hhhmmm.......

Hey Mesonto! Oh man! I'm sorry you're going through that! I thought I was going to be in an endless loop last night too. How much free space do you have on the phone? IF (big question I know) you can turf a bunch of stuff, try it out. If you've bought stuff, you can still download it again without paying a 2nd time. Try to bring the free space to 4MB?

As for the MS vs Samsung vs Rogers fight? DOH! oh man, that's a tough one! I read today more and more people are continuing to get these very same errors, so I think you'll find MS will be required to find and fix this re-update .....again! DOH! If you can be patient, I know, I know, like asking Tie Domi NOT to fight in hockey, DOH! but IF you can, stick it out, I'm sure MS will figure this out.

The ONE thought I'm truely grasping onto is, WHEN MS comes out with the BIG no-do update (the one that EVERYONE wants, with cut'n'paste, faster loading times, etc), they'll have been beaten up a few times, they'll have THAT process NAILED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you for commenting Mesonto. If at the least, I hope I was able to help let you know you're not alone, that you have a place to vent, and at least one other person appreciates what you're going through!

Re: Did Microsoft re-release the latest WP7 update? Uh, news alert, it's still .....uh...hhhmmm.......

Yeah, I have done everything that has been requested, including the memory thing, (now I have so much to install back onto my phone) and MS told me that they are now working on the problem. There is no way in hell I am going to reinstall everything from scratch from a hard reset. This reminds me of the early days of Win95. when MS used to tell everyone to reinstall the OS. BTW, the thread at MS for this thing is: is.gd/X6oLCG and you can see everything I have tried on page 3 under my name, Mesonto. So frustrated right now, I have no energy to battle MS, Samsung and Rogers at the same time for something that should have never happened in the first place.

Re: Did Microsoft re-release the latest WP7 update? Uh, news alert, it's still .....uh...hhhmmm.......

Hi Mesonto. Believe me, I can completely understand/appreciate your efforts and frustration! Sucks I know! And I know what you mean about the "reinstall win95" thing. I did Win 3.1 PSS (tech support, YA, THAT long ago) and the LAST thing (ie. it was VERY UNacceptable) to suggest reinstalling as a solution. The good news is, you heard/read that MS is working on it! That is GREAT news! Ok, not for you, and not immediately (sorry), BUT at least they KNOW about it and are working on it right?! The WORST case scenario is they can't reproduce is and you're the only one suffering! DOH! But that's not happening here! There are other's having this too, so you will get taken care of in short order!re no energy to battleAh man, that blows! Been there, been THAT frustrated to just give up. BUT I hope you don't give up the phone or on MS. They'll make it right (I just hope it's soon for everyone's and WP7's sake!). Have a good weekend (and thanks for commenting again, yes, I do appreciate it).

Hi Johnny, you weren't/aren't able to connect your WP7 phone to another bluetooth device? hhhmmm very strange? I only tried once, but I was able to get it to connect. That really bites you aren't able to get it to connect. Are you able to get anything out of the support forums? I hope you're able to get it working soon! Thanks for commenting and good luck with your issue!
