Are you using the NuGet Visual Studio Extension and getting errors when you try to update it? I think I can help you!
For the past, oh I don’t know, two months maybe, I’ve been getting messages from Visual Studio saying I can get a NuGet Extension update. COOL!

So I try, and I try again, and I try yet again! What’s the problem? My installation keeps failing! DOH! Is it me? Not enough coffee? Could be that? But then it does it ever day/night I try it out!

Ok, so we look deeper into the problem.

hhhhmmm uuhhhmmm…….Signatures don’t match? What? Well, if they don’t match, then maybe the installation is the problem? hhmm a few weeks go by and the problems the same thing!
Until tonight! Tonight I went to see Maxime Rouiller present at the ODNC, and as an aside while doing something else, he took a tangent and gave me my answer to this PERPLEXING problem! Merci Maxime!!!!! The secret is you have to run VS as administrator to first uninstall NuGet, BEFORE you can install the newest version.

Maybe YOU can get away without uninstalling, but tonight it wouldn’t work for me. I had to uninstall first.

Note: From NuGet’s own website, it looks like you have to uninstall first.

Ok, now that you’ve uninstalled NuGet, it won’t come up in the Updates section anymore. But that’s ok, go search for it, or if you’re lucky, it’ll be one of the first extensions in the Online Gallery and you can easily download/install it from there. And there you go! BOOM! DONE! No more annoying messages saying you have an update which you can’t install, you know the trick now!

Now that you know the trick to get NuGet installed, it’s time to grab a coffee and get coding!
