Heard about the new Nokia Lumia Windows Phones? Lets Compare them (and the Samsung phones too).

Last year we heard about Nokia coming on board for Windows Phone 7, lets look at the first fruits of their labours.  We're going to compare the currenly popular Apple iPhone 4S, Samsung Focus and the three new Nokia Lumia phones.

If your doing Windows Phone development (WP7), then you’ve probably heard about the upcoming new phones to Canada, namely the Lumia 710, 800 and 900.  Let’s compare the specs to the current most popular WP7 the Samsung Focus and it’s replacement, the Samsung Focus S.

I listed several phones below for comparison purposes.  The iPhone is there to help compare sizes and weights.  The Focus is there cause that’s what I have (and love!), as well as it’s replacement (which I’m looking at getting) and the three new Nokia’s, the budget minded 710, premier 800 and the upcoming super-premier 900.

Lots to think about eh?  Well, let’s think about it now!

Question/Concern Answer Best Phone For You! (IMHO)

Do you have THICK lenses in your glasses?

Then a bigger display will certainly help you.

Nokia 900

I don’t want to carry a brick!

Then you want something light.

The Focus or the 710 are good options.

I’m a SPEED DAEMON!

You’ll have to have 4G then.

Lumia 900 is your only option then.

I need the best camera!

Good, get a digital SLR and stop trying to replace your DSLR with your phone!

Each of these phones take OK pics in a pinch.

My kids play games on my phone but keep pressing the Back/Home/Search buttons!

The capacitive buttons do make playing games more challenging to avoid pressing those buttons.

The physical buttons on the Lumia 710 should be harder to accidently press.

I need a phone now, TODAY!

Samsung Focus.

Samsung Focus.

Aaaahhhh I can wait, I just need a good phone.

Trading off size, battery and weight.

The Focus S and the 710 are both great options.

I want the thinnest/lightest phone you got!

There you have a (relatively) fair assessment of some popular WP7 devices out there as well as a discussion on things to think about when purchasing.  Now that you have something to think about, it’s time to grab a coffee and get coding!
