An interesting thing happened on my way to opening my email this week

imageThis week I opened up an interesting email from someone wanting to pay me to advertise on my site.  Read on if you’re interested in nice detour from technical jargon.

This week I got a bit of a nice compliment for my website (yes, yes, a little bit of a pat on my back, just for a moment though).  So I’m interested in making a buck, so I replied back asking what kind of games are you looking for me to advertise for you?!  I got the reply back to day, it’s for Apple iPhone/iPad games.  Hhhhmmmmm JUST what I was afraid of.  DOH!!!!

There’s no dilemma though, I’m not about to go hypocritical on WP7, buuuuuuuuuuut it is hard to turn down.  As tempting as it is, this company is not local AND sells iPhone.  They were looking to pay me, if it were WP7, I think I’d do it for…….heck…..”just cause we need all the support we can get man!”  And if it’s no skin off my server, I’m in!  Heck, my google ads aren’t making me anything, at least I might get some additional traffice/readers?!

Anyways, here’s my response.  What would YOU have done?

I have good news and bad news. I have NO problems with the specific html you want me to put up (instead of the ad stuff you were talking about). In fact, if you were local, I'd do it "just cause you're local!" but you're London, UK instead of Ontario, Canada. DOH And the other hiccup is I'm a WP7 dev person, not someone looking to push anything Apple. I'm very sorry! If you were local, I might consider it cause well, I'm there to help the local underdog!!!!!!!!!!! But I can't in good conscious push Apple, I apologize.

I do want to wish you all the best of luck with your success, but I'm sorry I have to pass up on this opportunity. Have a good week.

PS  I REALLY hope I don’t have to EAT my words in a few months/years, but today, for now, this is how I feel.  All the best to this company in the future…but us with our WP7 are watching for you!

WOW! Talk about putting your money where your mouth is! I heard back from them, and they are willing to pay me $600/yr to advertise on my site! DOH! Oh man, THAT really tests your mettle to see how committed you are to YOUR tech and your community?!
