ODNCTonight, some of the ODNC volunteers got together to begin planning the next season!

Tonight, some volunteers from the Ottawa.NET community got together to talk about the upcoming Ottawa.NET user group season.  Although the planning is still in the works, I have to say I’m starting to get jazzed for this season!  Here’s a few reasons why!

  • The ODNC committee is starting their planning early, that means excited and passionate people WANT to give YOU a great experience this year!
  • Plans are already in the works to cement the dates EARLY which means you can plan you entire 2012-2013 season!  Last year, we had to work around Microsoft’s construction plans for the Glacier room.  But that’s all over and this year, we have a great facility!
  • Once the nights are “in stone” a call will go out for presenters, if you’re interested, PICK a night and email the organizers (emails/blog posts to follow).  I was assured local talent will be given special considerations.  That means if you’re got the “Presenters Itch” please, Please, PLEASE scratch it and email!!!!!!  I REALLY think people want to see topics like MVVM, data binding, TFS for indie devs, SQL Server for devs, Entity Framework, Metro and what’s it mean to me?!  Well, if you do to, please post/email the organizers to tell them!!!!
  • Last year people expressed an interest in seeing “Star Talent!”  The organizers HEARD YOU LOUD’N CLEAR!!!!  That was a big topic tonight and they are already schemi….WORKING on getting some BIG GUNS to present this year!  That means by sharing some costs, we HOPE to see people like (or as star powered as) Julie Lerman (EF Goddess).
  • OUT with the old and in with the new, the website’s going to get a much needed transformation to (well, that’s still to be concluded but it’s got lots of support) as well as continued consolidating of the three Ottawa user groups calendars (ODNC + OWSUG + OttSQL).  That means you’ll get a slicker website and in time more social media interactions.
  • Another year of no annual fees, that means it’s still free (for another year, YA!).
  • Ottawa Code Camp might be split into more targeted, laser focused sessions.  That means there MIGHT (still in deciding stage) be two/three/four, smaller, more targeted, LASER focused events giving you EXACTLY what your there for and nothing else.
  • There’s A LOT of new products/technologies coming out this year from Microsoft, and this means it’s going to be an AWESOME YEAR for you and learning!  What do I mean?  Come on….Windows 8 (desktop, ARM, Surface/tablet), Windows Phone 8 (OS and devices), Visual Studio 2012, TFS, SQL Server 2012, Windows Server 2012, Office, OH MY!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, so that’s only eight points, BUT we’re only July right?!  What I want to share with you is, devoted, passionate geeks are taking time out of their days/evenings ALREADY to plan for another AWESOME and fantastic 2012-2013 season!!!!
