image You’re a Windows Phone developer and going through the Dashboard to update your app?  You getting an error about your browser not running Silverlight and open desktop version?  BUT YOU ARE?!  DOH!  I think I can help you out!

Last night I finished updating my latest WP app (my blog, quite happy with this one LOL), I thought I’d update the Marketplace, but to my disappointment I got the following error.

You don't have a supported version of Silverlight installed. To get the latest version, go here. If you've opened this page in Windows 8, and you have Silverlight installed, go to Internet Explorer in the desktop to view this site.

The only problem is…….I WAS IN DESKTOP IE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  DOH!  It was too late, I was tired, I went to bed.

After a good night’s sleep and a GOOD cup of coffee (isn’t it always like that? LOL) it came to me, maybe…….just maybe I turned off any\all plugins in my IE and this is how the error is displayed?

If you’re in this situation, then I have something you can try!  After opening IE, goto Tools, Options, Programs and the Manage add-ons.

IE.Tools.Options

After that, look for Silverlight and see what is says.  Most likely it’s disabled.

SilverlightDisabledInIE

If that’s the case, then the fix is easy!  Just click the Enable button on the bottom right (after selecting Microsoft Silverlight of course).  Then you should be good to go!  Refresh the page, and you should be BACK IN BUSINESS!  If this ISN’T your issue…. then maybe Silverlight really isn’t on your machine?  That’s what happened on another box I tested this on tonight.  Unfortunately if this isn’t helping, I apologize, I don’t have any other ideas on this specifically.

Now that you know how to rejig IE to be able to update your WP apps, it’s time to grab a coffee and get coding!
